Nilom - My name is (Nilom) Din and I work for Social Services as a Community Support Worker.
I really like caring and that's why I chose this job. People who are ill, sick, or disabled people, I really want to help them. That's why I'm really proud of doing it.
(talks to service user)
One, two, three... There, that's better.
I went today to Manju Lubil. She had a stroke and she can't walk. She can't speak English very well. I can understand her language and speak, which will be very helpful for her. I can speak two, three languages. So I can communicate and explain to my other colleague what she is saying. So it will be easier for her, you know.
She used to move about before. She can walk with our assistance, but now she can't. She used to be like this when she was young.
(talks to service user)
- Yeah, you look nice.
I feel like I'm doing something for someone who really needs care. So that's very helpful.
Zenib Khan and Semera Khan are both mum and daughter. They are really, really loving persons. The daughter, she has got a learning disability. She can't speak, but I can understand her sign language and little words.
(talks to service user) - We haven't put any lipstick on you.
So it is very helpful for her mum when I go there and chat with her and make her happy, and mum talks about her difficulties and things. While I'm cooking for them, they are chatting and talking about things, and laughing and enjoying the life they are going through.
It seems like us all together, working together, helping them, it's like I'm helping someone who is my sister or daughter. I'm helping them like this. I really feel into my heart, you know, caring for them. For everyone. Everyone. I make them today mung dhal and chapatis and salad for dinner today. I take Semera for social outlet and for shopping and for a meal, and she loves it. She too much loves it.
Because I feel proud of when I am helping them, I feel proud myself. I have done something good for someone. When they cry, I cry with them because inside I'm so soft, very soft. If somebody is crying or in pain, I really, really feel for them. So I'm really saying to young persons, they could come out for this job and help people.
Service user - Understand, same is my home is... (Speaking foreign language)
She is saying I feel like she is my member of family. That's what she is saying.
Service user - Very nice. Very nice woman. Very nice.
Nilom - That's enough. Again and again. (Laughs) Everybody loves me. I don't know why.
