Getting started Job hunting

Tips on looking for work

  • Make the first move. Most important don’t wait for a job advert to appear in your local paper.
  • Seize the initiative!
  • Find out which organisations in your local area provide the type of care services you are interested in. This might be your local council but they may contract some services to private or voluntary organisations.
  • Look in the phone book for addresses of residential homes and agencies specialising in care work and contact them.
  • If you have access to the Internet, you could look on the jobs page on the website of your local council or use the Jobcentre Plus website. http://www.jobcentreplus.gov.uk
  • Ask about jobs in social care at your local Jobcentre or Jobcentre Plus.
  • You could also try looking on some of the online recruitment sites listed in our Jobs section
