Your experience in social care work might encourage you to become a qualified social worker. In September 2003 a new degree in social work was introduced that combines studying at a university or college of higher education with at least 200 days of practical work.
An NVQ in Health and Social Care at level 3 or 4, plus extensive social care work experience, may gain you entry to the degree course. For more information, ask for the 'Careers in Social Work' booklet available through the Helpline or visit www.socialworkcareers.co.uk.
