Heather - Team leaderHeather, took the plunge of moving from being a nursery nurse to working in a residential school for 30 young people with severe behavioural problems. "I guess I was looking for a challenge and this was it. For months I hated it, I’d go home and cry. But I survived, started to find it rewarding, and stayed 7 years. I was Deputy Head of Care when I left to start my own family. I came back through the relief bank, doing shifts at care homes when I could. Now I’m working full-time again. You need patience, to be a good listener, and to understand the effects that neglect and abuse have had on the boys in the home. And a sense of fun, too." |
